Summary:

The barback contributes to the guest experience by setting tables; placing and replacing silverware; keeping beverage cups, garnishes, products, ice and other bar supplies prepared and stocked; adhering to sanitation and safety policies; clearing and cleaning tables and bar tops, chairs, floors and the overall bar and restaurant environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cleans, sets and re-sets tables continuously, assumes responsibility for bar location, tables and bar tops and side work duties
  • Serves water, refills non-alcoholic beverages and greets guests by name whenever possible during the course of meal service
  • Fills bus tubs properly for efficient unloading for stewarding and ensures proper safety standards at all times
  • Sets up bars according to established Company standards
  • Maintains proper par levels of alcohol and other beverages throughout the shift by following the internal requisition procedure
  • Fills ice bins throughout the shift and restocks all cups and glassware
  • Assists bartenders in keeping interior and exterior bar areas clean and safe
  • Assists in preparation of opening the property and closing down the bar and liquor areas
  • Ensures all garnish stations are full with cut to order fresh fruit
  • Has good knowledge of restaurant, menus, function space, guest rooms, outlets and services
  • Takes every opportunity to amaze the guests by providing exceptional guest service
  • Smiles, makes eye contact any greets guests immediately
  • Seats guests immediately
  • Handles special requests properly; anticipates guest's needs
  • Promptly responds and resolves guest complaints
  • Answers telephone promptly (when needed) and properly, being polite, courteous and friendly
  • Actively asks for feedback from guests
  • Is knowledgeable and helpful about the local area, the Hotel and the Hotel services
  • Adheres to all applicable company Standard Operating Procedures

 Other Functions:

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the manager based upon the particular requirements of the Hotel:

  • Performs set up duties as requested to include side stations, storage areas and food staging areas
  • Performs general cleaning tasks utilizing cleaning to adhere to health and safety standards
  • Folds napkins or rolls silverware for meal period to maintain an adequate supply
  • Removes trash, inserts trash liners to trash cans, organizes and keeps trash area clean
  • Attends required meetings
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area
  • Performs other duties as requested, such as cleaning unexpected spills and executing special guest requests

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 21 years of age; High School Diploma preferred
  • A minimum of 2 years previous bar/restaurant experience required

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:    

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Ability to multi task in a high volume and fast paced work environment
  • Ability to push/pull up to 500lbs with the use of a pallet jack
  • Ability lift up to 80lbs

  • Extensive knowledge of the hotel, its services and facilities
  • Possesses knowledge of the appropriate table settings and service ware
  • Capable of describing all menu items, prices and methods of preparation and use of suggestive selling techniques to encourage the guests to choose items that are house specialties

 Working Conditions:

  • Most work tasks are performed outdoors; however, must be able to work in extreme temperatures like freezers (-10 degrees F) and kitchens (+110 degrees F), possibly for one hour or more
  • Work requires evenings, weekends and holiday hours
  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 4 hours in length
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and subordinates
  • Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs. on occasion
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning/inspection tasks
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment
